Teriyaki Glazed Spam & Pineapple Sandwich

What? You think you don't like Spam? Try this sandwich.


You Will Need:

  • A skillet


Ingredients:

  • 1 12 oz can of Spam

  • bottle of Teriyaki sauce or can make your own glaze, see recipe below

  • Sliced American cheese

  • 1 can of pineapple slices

  • Hawaiian sweet buns

  • some sliced green onion



Instructions:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and add the oil.

  • Slice the spam into four equal size pieces

  • Place the spam in the pan and brush the tops with glaze.

  • Sear until golden brown, 3-5 minutes, then flip and brush the other side with glaze.

  • Add the cheese and cook for another 3-5 minutes until the cheese is melted.

  • Remove to a plate.



  • Add the pineapple slices to the pan, searing each side for 2-3 minutes.



  • To assemble, spoon the glaze on each slider bun, then top with spam and a pineapple slice.

  • Sprinkle with scallions and enjoy.




Notes:

Homemade glaze sauce

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 1 garlic clove, grated

  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger

  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 2 teaspoons honey

  • 2 teaspoons ketchup

  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar

  • 2 Dijon mustard packets (2 teaspoons)

  • 1 red pepper flake packet (1/4 teaspoon)

Heat the vegetable oil in a small saucepan.

Add the garlic and ginger and cook until just fragrant, 1-2 minutes.

Stir in the hoisin, soy sauce, honey, ketchup, rice vinegar, red pepper flakes and Dijon.

Bring to a simmer and cook until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool.
